When hiring a contractor for air duct cleaning, there are a number of things to consider, including equipment. If you’re not sure what you need, read our guide to air duct cleaning equipment and how to choose the best one for your home or business. If you’re in the market for a new vacuum or rotary brushing system, here are a few things to consider. Before you choose a new air duct cleaning tool, make sure you weigh the amount of work and budget to determine which equipment is right for your particular needs.
When it comes to vacuuming ducts, you need to invest in a powerful HEPA filter-equipped vacuum. These powerful units can connect directly to your HVAC system and create negative air pressure within the ductwork, which prevents dirt from spreading. A bagged unit can be a pain to use because you must replace the bags every few months. Alternatively, a bagless duct cleaning vacuum is more convenient, as it doesn’t require replacement bags.
Some competitor equipment uses a standard brush that cannot reach deep into a duct. A typical 8-inch-round duct will not fit a brush that is 20 feet deep. It also can’t work on a duct that opens directly into a supply line. The same goes for smaller ducts. You can’t use an 8-inch-round brush to clean a duct that’s six feet deep.
